Converse: Meditation for the Planet

Part of a year long artist-in-residency called Conduit in the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Public Park, Converse: Meditation for the Planet is the last of three stages of installations, walking tours, performances and workshops.

Meditation for the Planet is a 3 part interdisciplinary community engaged project that includes The Meditation on Water, The Meditation on Land and Gifting.

The Meditation on Land

This installation invites Chinese, Japanese and West Coast Aboriginal or Coast Salish people whose strong connection with nature lends itself to expressing affirmations for the earth.
Each cultural group is invited to create an affirmation, poetic or philosophical statement inspired by nature, written in their own language. Each group will have 3 of their contributions wood burned onto cedar planks. These will be mounted in various locations within the park - 3 planks - one from each cultural group, at any given time during the residency. Each contributor is asked to provide translation/interpretation in English.

All participants are also invited to contribute affirmations for Gifting to visitors to the park during the Converse public events.
