This gathering will take place in front of the federal building where the sham provincial missing women’s inquiry took place last year, an inquiry which completely shut out and marginalized the voices and experiences of family members, DTES residents, Indigenous communities, and women’s groups. To date, the provincial government continues to stall on following up on the recommendations.
In light of the failures of the provincial inquiry, we are calling instead for a national and international public inquiry that is actually led by family and community members and that centers our experiences and need for healing, as well as our ongoing quest for answers, concrete action, and meaningful justice. Women continue to go missing or be murdered with no action from the federal government and a considerable lack of political will at all levels of government to address these tragedies or the systemic nature of gendered violence, poverty, racism, or colonialism.
Join us on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women to come together to grieve the loss of our beloved sisters, remember the women who are still missing, and to dedicate ourselves to justice.
