Ceremony commences at 11:00am
Main St and Terminal Ave
Thornton Park, Vancouver, BC

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the massacre of fourteen women at L’Ecole Polytechnic, University of Montreal, Remember Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE) invites the public to a community event to remember women and girls who have been murdered in Vancouver and around the world.

Like other vigils which will take place across the country, this event is intended to contribute to a shift in Canadian consciousness, helping people move from denial to healing to societal change.

The ceremony will express our grief and honour the sisters we have lost to violence. We wish to bring to consciousness our society’s destructive patterns of denial and “forgetting” through these symbolic acts, performance and installations.

In the lead up to December 6th, the ROSE website Dialogue Forum is being used to facilitate the exchange of ideas, information and cultural expression concerning the December 6th event and the loss we experience when a woman is murdered.

Join us on December 6th and participate in a free, artist-facilitated ceremony at the site of Marker of Change, the women’s monument. Elder Audrey Rivers of the Squamish Nation will offer the Opening Prayer. Member of Parliament Dr. Hedy Fry will be Mistress of Ceremonies.

Together we will honour the women we have lost and express our collective desire to end violence on Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
