SlutWalk D.C. is a movement to increase dialogue and raise awareness about prevalent attitudes in our society that blame the victim or survivor in sexual assault cases. No one asks to be sexually assaulted.
History of the SlutWalk movement
SlutWalk Toronto started because of a statement made on January 24th, 2011 by the Toronto Police advising young women not to "dress like a slut" in order to be safe. Toronto's Slutwalk was an organized response on April 3, and many cities have followed in its wake, including the upcoming Washington DC participation scheduled for August 13th of this year.
History of the DC SlutWalk 2011
Local Samantha Wright and a passionate crew of organizers (listed below) put together the DC planning and got word out to the city. The staff at ProgressiveErotica.com got wind of it and offered to help build this website. Our first DC SlutWalk is August the 13th.
