Event Description

December 6th is the National Day of Action and Remembrance on Violence Against Women

Every year at 6 PM on December 6th, people gather at the memorial boulder in Philosopher's Walk to mourn the 14 women murdered because of their gender at l'Ecole Polytechnique in 1989. We vow not to forget these women and all women who live with violence, who have died due to violence, and those who have survived.

We will have 3 speakers, a Native healing ceremony, and a musical performance as well as reading of the names of the women who have died as a result of male violence in Ontario this year. This year is the 20th Anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.

Join Women Won't Forget as we remember and tell the stories of those women who can no longer speak for themselves. It is the job of those of us who go on living to speak for them and to change the world we live in.

You do not need to have lost a woman to violence to participate or gain meaning from the vigil. We do this to learn, to raise awareness of an incredibly important issue and to take a stand. People come to the vigil representing a voice that says "Violence against women, anywhere in the world, is NOT acceptable"
