If this applies to you, please describe your involvement in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
I am a survivor of domestic vilolence. I am a volunteer with Family Services of Dufferin Peel as a Sister Mentor working to support and empower domestic abuse survivors.
If this applies to you, what is the name of your group or project or memorial? (Or is it now ROSE?)
CFSDP Sistering Program and ROSE
If applicable, how long have you been involved in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
I have been a volunteer for almost 2 years and an advocate for domestic abuse survivors for 10 years.
One of my closest friends lost her step-mother (Helen) to domestic violence. Her step-sister's boyfriend was out on bail for abusing her, broke into the home and attacked them. The step-sister survived but her step-mother died from her injuries. It is in this woman's honor that Helen's Law has been proposed.
What changes for women would you like to see happen?
Longer sentences for abusers.
Monitoring devices on abusers from the time they are first charged until the probation is complete, this is a very scary time for vitims.
Also, there should be jail time for the first offense and the sentence should be much greater for further offenses. They should also include huge fines and license suspension if the fine does not get paid.

It is an honour you have joined ROSE. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you use the features of the website. Or if we can help you in your work. Some members are petitioning Canada's federal government for the kind of changes you recommend.
Thank you so much for joining!
