Profile Information

If this applies to you, please describe your involvement in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
For 8 years, 22 performances, we produced the Vagina Monologues to help stop the violence and to raise funds to produce the Memory March-an annual walk/vigil in Vancouver. We also produce live unjuried theatre with grants available to women who write plays about violence against women. last year we produced a play from India at our festival in June (Abbotsford); this year we are producing Unwanted Dead or Alive by playwright and ex-sex trade worker Beth Hudson form Calagary. As part of the Rampage Project we keep a List of over 3,000 women and children missing and murdered in Canada since 1989. Our upcoming Festival June 12 which feature a new play by Hudson called A Stroke of Malice. (Abbotsford)
If this applies to you, what is the name of your group or project or memorial? (Or is it now ROSE?)
Art Matters Society
If applicable, how long have you been involved in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
15 years
What changes for women would you like to see happen?
I would like to see women have more choices in child care and the freedom to make choices to help them leave a violent relationship; more family support and intervention in domestic violence situations. I would like to see all people become more involved in raising the 'child'.

International Celebration of Women

March 26, 2011 we will be hosting the International Celebration of Women in Abbotsford-combined with our Fifth Annual Memory March-our walk/vigil will be held at 10 AM, gathering in Mill Lake, walking to the Civic Plaza where will have a meditation, and the names of the now over 4,000 missing and murdered women and children will be displayed for us to honour them. Anyone who wants to help us organize either one of the above events should contact me. We are looking for women to share their work from all over-we currently have two submissions from India and a few local groups; singers, poets, actors doing monologues. Contact me if you are interested in being a part of our first ICOW and let me know if you can come and walk with us March 26, 2011.
