If this applies to you, please describe your involvement in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
I have recently watched Finding Dawn and I am awake I have a plan to make some art to raise some funds and awareness. I am going to make a proposal and and send it to someone to try to help. I can't stop crying and thinking of those poor women and thier families and I want to do anything I can to help I am so great full to have been awakened. I will not rest until we have stopped the violence. I have always been an activist I just never knew this story. Thank you families and friends and the National Film Board and Christine Welsh. This is yet another devastating repercussion of our national and historical disgrace in our complete disrespect for the First Nations and the agreements we made that allowed us to come here and live here. .
If this applies to you, what is the name of your group or project or memorial? (Or is it now ROSE?)
Spring Trust
If applicable, how long have you been involved in women's memorial making/violence prevention?
I have always been involved in anti violence I have walked across the country and to NYC and Washington with my children against global and domestic violence. Justice issues like land rights and Leonard Peltier etc. I have never focused my attention on anti violence to First Nations women s community because I remain ignorant to the real issues even though in the back of my mind I realized it is a really serious issue I think I have been afraid to face it because now I will have to mobilize myself and others and it is so painful it is impossible to want to be involved...to find positive things to do to help and to not wallow in despair. I have never seen strength like that of those families who have lost loved ones!. Recently I have been brushed by the murder of a First Nations woman in our community. I did not know Spring but I am far less than 6 degrees away from her. I could be her. She let someone crash at her place. He brutally murdered her.
What changes for women would you like to see happen?
I am going to try to raise funds for a trust to a:find those women
B; find ways to make women safer and pay for them such as a bus and cameras for highway 16. and emergency tracking devices for sex trade workers or anything that will help the ever increasing circle of those who are grieving. I will help. I am an artist. I am going to make portraits of the women who are missing with the permission and help of whoever I can find that wants a portrait and then I am going to have an auction and contribute the proceeds to whatever the families see as the best way to go. I am doing a project for Spring's children right now but soon I will contribute more I am not just not letting anyone get away with not watching Finding Dawn.
