Based on the "Manifesto for Conscious Men," a collectively-written document from a number of men who feel that a new definition of masculinity can help redress the imbalances of patriarchy and welcome a new era of loving appreciation between men and women. A group of these men speak from the heart and offer a collective apology, on behalf of their gender, for past abuses of men against women.
PLEASE READ BEFORE COMMENTING:
We recognize that this video and the manifesto may offend those who believe that there is currently no imbalance between the sexes, or that collective apologies are foolish. While our position is definitely that men and women are equal -- and that fact is not currently reflected in most cultures in the world today -- it has never been that collective apologies are mandatory to achieve recognition of this equality. We only believe that collective apologies can be helpful and healing when offered freely and accepted freely. There is no onus on any viewer to accept this apology, or even our right to offer it (as that would instantly invalidate any apology). Alternatively, we do not deny anyone's right to withhold apology, collectively or individually. But for those who do accept our apology or our right to offer one, we hope that it can stand in place of one that may never come otherwise.
We have received thousands of comments, and while many of them are positive, many others are highly abusive or offensive. We are happy to welcome all points of view, but not expressions of violence or hatred. If you have feedback or would like to offer your thoughts and opinions, we encourage you to do so. WE WILL NOT PUBLISH FOUL LANGUAGE, HATE SPEECH, THREATS, OR SLURS. It is completely possible to have a civil discourse of contrary opinions without resorting to aspersion or insult. We welcome debate, not hate.
